Beating the Heat | My Favorite Local Summer Activities
Daylen and I are very outdoorsy, so naturally, we love summer! Logan is a farm town at heart, so there's not much to do indoors in the summer. Now that we have lived in Cache Valley for a couple years, we've figured out our favorite summer spots in the valley to beat the heat and have fun! Today on the blog, I'm sharing my favorite spots in and out of the valley for fun summer activities.
All of these places are within one hour of Cache Valley. We love to kayak, camp, and spend time outdoors, so that's what you'll find at these locations. If you don't like the outdoors, these activities are not for you! We like to visit them in the morning or evening to avoid the hot midday sun. Always wear sunscreen and stay in the shade!
Bear Lake - We love Bear Lake! It is just less than an hour drive from Logan, through the canyon, on the prettiest drive ever. There are many different beaches from the north side by Montpelier ID, all the way to the south end in Utah. The water at Bear Lake is often called 'the Caribbean of Utah' because of it's light blue color! My favorite shakes ever are in Garden City at the many shake shops, so we always stop by after a day at the lake. There are many places to camp and stay, and it's such a beautiful place to spend the weekend. Rent a boat or jet ski for the day for added lake fun!
Mantua Reservoir - Mantua is a great little reservoir for hanging out in the sand, kayaking, and a little bit of fishing. It is very small, though, with little access. We like to go on weekdays to avoid the crowds. There are many camping spots around Mantua as well, and even a little store / ice cream shop! Pro Tip: the Box Elder Campground nearby has a poppy field that blooms in June, so avoid it! It gets really crowded. (Pictured below)
Little Bear Bottoms - Usually this is a fall spot because of their corn maze and pumpkin patch, but in the summer they have a redneck water slide! If you haven't heard of redneck water slides, they're basically a while water slide going down a hill, sometimes with mud at the bottom. They are so fun, and can be rented out for groups.
Bonneville Shoreline Trail - The Bonneville Shoreline Trail is an easy hike that continues from Cache Valley to Salt Lake City on and off. The one in Logan Canyon is an easy horizontal walk after the initial hill, and has a great view of the sunset at night. We like to stop by Aggie Ice Cream or Baked Cookies on our way there! This is a great morning or evening hike, but doesn't have much shade so stay away from it midday. If you're looking to workout, try running up and down the initial hill!
Any of the Logan Parks - There are many parks in Logan that are perfect for picnic dates, sports, and walks! We like to sit under the trees and have mini picnics, and even ride our bikes there. Our favorites are the ones with big trees and creeks running through them! Bonus: search Little Libraries on a search engine. They are little bird houses with books in them under a take-one-leave-one policy. I love to walk by them on the way to the park and get a book! There is a map online to them. (Pictured below)
