Choosing A Photographer

Choosing a photographer is an important process. It is more than just finding someone that owns a camera. A photographer is someone who knows how to set up a photo with good composition, posing, lighting, and knowledge of their camera's manual settings. A photographer will edit your photos to be consistent with their style. Finding the right photographer for you includes finding someone that matches your preferred style, a photographer you want to spend time with during your shoots, and a photographer who is credible and experienced.

Here are some tips on finding a photographer that is right for you.

1. Look through the photographer's portfolio to understand their style of shooting. Imagine what you want your photos to look like. Do you want them lighter or darker? Colorful or dull? Airbrushed or minimal editing? Make sure you know what kinds of photos you want, and even tell your photographer. They should also match your personal style! They'll be on your social and hanging around your house, after all. I tend to shoot bright and crisp photos, that capture emotion.

2. Contact your photographer before your session to get to know them. Your photographer needs to know your personality before taking your photos, and you should get to know them to see if they are the right fit for your needs. The more you talk to your photographer, the more comfortable you will be at your shoot. You'll also need to know if they are right for you! If you hire a photographer you don't like personally, you probably won't like your photos. We send a questionnaire to our brides to personalize their wedding photos.

3. Check the credibility of your photographer. How many sessions have they shot like yours? Are they certified in any photography courses or photographer education? Most clients want a qualified, experienced photographer. Especially for their wedding day. This is a very important day in your life, and you have to be able to trust your photographer to know how to capture it perfectly and handle anything that may come their way. Ask yourself what you are requiring of your photographer before you choose. Read their about section or email them to see their qualifications.

4. Look at your photographer's social media accounts and blog posts. Sometimes photographers will post about parts of their personality on social media platforms like Instagram. Getting to know your photographer may help you decide if they are right for you. This is also a good way to see their portfolio and photo style. Another great way to get to know your photographer and their work is on their website and blog!
