What to Wear to a Photo Session
Have you booked a photo session recently, or are thinking about booking one, and not known where to start with what to wear? There are so many options and guidelines for couples, families, and individuals when it comes to photo sessions. They might be a little confusing! With the help of our Style Guide we send to all of our clients at booking, we have compiled our best tips on what to wear for photo sessions. You'll look great on camera, feel confident, and treasure your photos when you know what to wear!
1. Choose a main color, and use variations. Once you choose your main color, the outfits will come together easily. You can choose variations of your main color, or add in another color. If you use one color with similar variations, not every one has to be exactly matching to look great together. Try not to add more than two colors to avoid clashing. The best colors on-camera are light blues, light pinks, marigold, army green, white, maroon, lavender and navy. Avoid choosing a main color like red if you are pale skinned. This tends to bring out the redness in skin and eyes.
2. Use neutral tones for makeup. Your paid photo session is not the time to experiment with makeup! Neutral tones look best on-camera for a glow-y light look. If you know a color works with your skin tone, use it. Avoid overdoing your make-up. Your photos should look natural and bring out the beauty you already have. My favorite everyday and on camera makeup is Maskcara Beauty! It's easy to apply, lasts long, and looks professional. See it here.
3. Be confident. Confidence is key! Wear something that makes you feel your best, and you'll look your best. Give yourself a pep talk in your head before your shoot to bring up your self-esteem. When you're confident, you can do anything!
4. When in doubt, dress up! Dressier photos always look better! You wouldn't believe the difference it makes in making your photos look more high-end and timeless. It is always better to be on the dressier side of style for your photo session than too casual. High heels elongate women's legs and make you look fabulous, while clothes toed shoes and long pants such as slacks make men look more masculine and professional. For children, play around with accessories such as scarves, vests, and fluffy skirts. Stay within your color scheme of two or three main colors, and you're good to go!
