Our House Rocks (literally)

During April, we put the rock on our house! It feels a lot more "finished" now that the exterior is practically finished. Just a few details left! Our rock ended up not being what we originally chose. They delivered the wrong rock style even though it was ordered correctly. I still like my original choice much better, but this rock looks fine on our house. Luckily, it was the correct color and grout.

We spent one weekend getting the rock on. Like every house building process, it's a lot different from what I thought it'd be! It was really fun. Putting the rock on is one of my favorite parts of building so far. Since our rock was small, skinny and had so many pieces it took a while to finish. First, we mixed cement. Then, used trowels to put the cement on the edges of each rock, then held each rock against the wall until it stuck. One rock at a time!

My mom and Rob volunteered with us and we had fun putting the rock on. It's like one big puzzle! Also thank you to Tricia and Kenzie for volunteering as well.

In between rock and grout, we also put stucco on all of the foundations to make it look nicer. It was one of my least favorite parts of building and I didn't really see the point, but it's done on all houses so I don't have to do it again. I'm still sore! It dried light gray.

This past weekend, after doing rock and grout on some other houses, we did our grout! Grout wasn't as fun as rock, but wasn't terrible. Unfortunately while grouting the house before ours I hurt my finger so that didn't help. Basically, we piped in the grout in piping bags that look like they're made for a cake! Then we went back through and spread the grout, and brushed it smooth. The grout color we chose is called mocha.

It took a long time to do grout on our house since our house is so long. Luckily, we didn't have to stay to late. Daylen's brother Dylan and his girlfriend Sami helped us with the grout, and they are officially the first volunteers to stay the entire 12 hour Saturday with us!

Rock is finally done! Three houses still need rock and grout, and five have it all done. Now that our rock is done, we are finishing up our basement insulation this week. Then, it's on to finish work and landscaping! That's all that's left before we move in! We appreciate all of our volunteers so much in helping us get this all done so we can move in faster.
