Raise the Roof!

We have a roof! After our house framing was finished, we waited a few days for subcontractors to come out and put on our roof. It took about a week! We were so grateful for the timing of our roof, since we've had an early winter here. It's so cool how much more it looks like a house once the roof is on!

After our roof was finished, we immediately started stapling roof paper and tar paper on. It's not as easy as it looks to roll heavy rolls of paper on a roof while stapling and making sure all of the seams are overlapped correctly. We spent an entire 12 hour day on the roof once, finishing it up, and my legs were so sore from standing at an angle!

After our roof was done, we framed other houses for a month, while putting on house wrap at our house. House wrap, much like roof paper, is harder and more time consuming than it looks. We stayed out on a Sunday night until 11:30pm finishing it up before a snow storm! It's a difficult job for just two people. But now our house is weather-proof!

Having our house wrapped the night before a snowstorm was such a relief.

After framing some other houses, now we are back working on ours again! We did lots of blocking, and things that will help the sheet-rockers later on when we get drywall. We also nailed brackets onto the roof trusses.

Now, we are working on our stairs to our basement (below). Once these are done, the heating subcontractors can start on our utility room and put in vents! I'm so excited for all of the framing on other houses to be done soon so we can start working inside.

If you'd like to volunteer with us we could use the extra help and hours! We'd absolutely love to have you out for even an hour. Let me know if you'd like to volunteer. (Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat)
