What's white and smells like red paint?
White paint.
Our house is painted! I can’t believe it. Finish work was long and tedious but it was all worth it! Our paint looks so good. Big shout out to Daylen who sprayed all of our paint on while I held lights, cords, and helped any way I could.
In our program, we are all required to paint our houses white. After we move in, we can repaint them if we want to different colors. We are going to leave ours white. I like that I can match any decorations with it and that it‘s so bright.
First, we had to prep for paint. This took longer than I thought it would. We stuffed paper into all of the switches and light sockets, taped up the windows and our built in fans, and covered the bathtubs. We also had to make sure all hinges on exterior doors were taped off. We took our interior doors to the basement and set them up to be painted as well.
Then, we started painting! First, of course, was primer. We learned how to paint efficiently with the primer, and got used to our gear. We had to paint the entire house, including the ceilings! It was so hot, too!
Primer goes on heavier than paint to cover the dark spots of drywall between the mud.
After primer, we sanded some runs and areas that had dust in them, and then we painted. The paint was brighter and smelled a lot worse. It looked so great when we were done! It's so much more finished now.
After paint we'll do some touch ups and then subcontractors will install our cabinets and counter-tops! All we have to do left now inside is flooring, touch ups, and hardware! Yay! Here’s what it looks like now that the windows are open again.
In the mean time, our lighting is on it's way! We got to choose out of many, many lighting choices for every light in our home. We decided to keep everything simple except for our kitchen chandelier, basement stair pendant, and outdoor lighting. I love our lighting so much! I'm so excited for it to get here. We are planning to put a fan in our living room and master bedroom once we move in, when we can choose it from anywhere.
