Odds + Ends

Our house is just about ready for subcontractors! At the beginning of February, we were given a list of what needs to be done at our house for the heating, electrical, plumbing, and sheet rock sub contractors to do their thing. We've been getting lots of odds and ends finished, that I didn't even think we'd be doing.

We have a porch now! Subcontractors came out and framed in our porch a little over a week ago, and yesterday, they poured the concrete. No more tripping over rebar on the porch, and no more water in the basement! It's crazy how fast our house is all coming together. A porch and a front door really make it feel like a house.

As for the odds and ends we did, we had to prep the tubs for the plumber, build a closet above our stairs, build a garage door border, add in backing for railings, nail in some more brackets, build our radon pipe, cut holes for insulation, and shingle (shingling blog post coming soon). Subs also spray painted where our cabinets will go on our floors.

I think the radon pipe is pretty cool. Before we had cement basement floors, I dug a hole in the dirt and placed a pipe there. Then, we covered the whole basement floor with plastic so that only the pipe was sticking out to let the harmful radon out instead of collecting. Now that we have cement floors and are all framed up, I extended the pipe out of the basement, through a wall, and out the roof!

We also got to go to our neighbors open house! I love open houses, because I always get lots of good ideas for our house. There was even one of our house plan, so I got to see what it looks like finished again. It's so cool that our neighbors are moved in! When we started building, they were working on the rock on their house and had just gotten a paved driveway. Now they're done!

Bridgette visited her new house as well! She doesn't love the porch or the inside yet, but she loves running around in the backyard. She has lots of energy lately! I can't wait for her to have more open space to run in. A lab puppy about her age just moved in next door, I hope they'll be friends.

Next up is subcontractors! We are also finishing roofing, which I'll blog about soon. We are always happy to have volunteers to work on things with us! Even if our house is waiting on subs, we still go out and build Tues-Thurs and Saturdays. Thanks!
