In May, we drove all the way down to Kanarraville Utah to hike a slot canyon. We'd been planning this for quite a while, especially since Rob was planning to propose to my mom on this trip! They had been there once before and loved it, and wanted to take us.
Kanarra Falls is a slot canyon in southern Utah. You have to have a permit to hike, and it's about 2.5 miles to the first waterfall. Depending on the time of year, the other falls may be closed. It's a beautiful hike! I'd recommend shoes like Chacos if you go, that work in the water and hiking on dirt. Mine were perfect!
First, we hiked up to the slot canyon. It was so pretty! I was really glad it was warm out as well.
Then, we hiked through the slot canyons in the water up to the falls. This was the coolest part. It was easier than I thought to hike up a river! I had all of my photography and videography equipment for the surprise proposal, so it was a bit of a challenge trying to lug all that up the trail and not get any of it wet. I don't know how my mom didn't catch on to the reason I brought it, because I never would have just brought all that gear on a hike. But I'm glad she didn't!
Once we got to the waterfall, we had to carefully set Daylen up to film and get all my photo gear ready and the lighting settings right without my mom noticing. Luckily their backs were towards us as they climbed up the ladder. Once they were at the top I could only hear the falls, nothing else. Daylen and I just shot constantly until we caught it! It was a great moment, and my mom was truly surprised. She said yes!
After, everyone in the canyon cheered and congratulated her, and Daylen and I climbed up to the top of the falls.
We hiked back down to Kanarraville and took some family photos and Mom and Rob's engagement photos! I had convinced her to bring fancy clothes for family photos.
We grabbed dinner in St. George and ice cream, and drove back home as I edited photos in the car. It was a great day!
