The 4th of July is almost here! It's one of my favorite holidays, because of all of the parades, family fun, fireworks, and more. Daylen's birthday is the 3rd as well, so you could say we like Independence Day week. We've spent 4th of July weekend at home, traveling, camping and more. I've been in a parade twice even! Once as a kid for Little Miss Cherry Days in North Ogden, and once when Daylen's old truck won the South Ogden Car Show. I love 4th of July!
We've been lots of cool places for the 4th (the past two years in Jackson Hole and Capitol Reef NP), but I want to highlight some of the awesome local activities right here in northern Utah. Here are some of my favorite things to do on the 4th! Enjoy!
Ogden Area
Ogden Raptors Baseball Games - on the 3rd and 4th of July, the Raptors have special games that have fireworks afterwards! These are the best baseball games in all of Utah. You can really get into the game, since it's a smaller stadium. They also have the best snacks (try the garlic fries), and catching foul balls is common so bring a glove. It's on my Ogden Date Ideas list!
Pioneer Days Celebration - I know this isn't on the fourth, but it's in July! On pioneer week, Ogden has a super fun rodeo, parade, and celebration! It's definitely a can't miss event. Worth mentioning here because it's so much fun. Don't miss it!
North Ogden Cherry Days - my favorite 4th of July event! North Ogden is such a cute little town, and since I spent half of my childhood there, I've been going to Cherry Days since I was little. When I was 7, I was even in the Little Miss Cherry Days Pageant! (This has since turned into Miss North Ogden, another fun event in North Ogden.) Cherry Days kicks off with a big pancake breakfast and music in the park. After breakfast is the parade on the main road down the hill! It's such a fun parade. Then, there's a market and fair in the park, that I once took Abigail Erin Photography to! There are kids activities, food and booths.
Huntsville Fireworks - if you like being up close and personal to fireworks shows, head to Huntsville in the Ogden Valley! They have a super cool firework show in Liberty Park where people bring snacks, camp chairs, and sit under the stars for the show. It caught me off guard how close the fireworks are (right above you) so if you're not a fan of that, skip it.
Layton Area
Hill AFB Air Show - the biggest air show in the area! It can be watched from on base, or around the Layton area. I recommend going to the event on base. The air show is super fun, and patriotic! Click here for my blog post about it.
Cache Valley
Cache Valley Cruise In - one of our favorite events! Since we used to live very close to Main Street, we loved walking out from our porch to watch the cruise in. Daylen loves classic cars, so it's one of his favorite events. It's the most popular parade in the valley, so get there early to have a spot! There is also a big party in the park on Friday and Saturday! Even a chance to win a classic car of your own. Sometimes, they do a burnout contest afterwards at a local auto shop.
Freedom Fire - Logan's big firework celebration! Held in USU's Maverik Stadium, Freedom fire is a huge celebration with live music and fireworks. If you can't make it inside, make sure to get to a spot you can see the fireworks! Utah State is on a hill, so as long as you have a clear view of the mountains you should be able to see it.
Mantua Poppies - these happen a bit before 4th of July but they are so fun! There are a few fields full of poppies in Mantua. I hesitated putting this on the list because they are so popular that sometimes there is overcrowding and the poppies get stomped down. Please be courteous. They are so gorgeous though, so I see why everyone loves them! I do photo sessions there every year. Click here and fill out the form on that page for more info on poppy mini sessions.
