One of my favorite easy hikes in the Salt Lake City area is Donut Falls in Big Cottonwood Canyon. It's such a fun hike! While we were in SLC for a photoshoot, we decided to head over to the Donut Falls hike. It was so nice to hike in the cool canyon on a hot summer day! When we went, there was a detour in place for the trail. We also didn't climb up the falls to the main waterfall due to it being very slippery conditions.
Donut Falls is a super easy 1.5 mile out-and-back hike. It is located up the road from the Jordan Pines Campground road. Donut Falls is usually pretty crowded, so you may have to park a bit down the road since the parking lot is pretty small for the trailhead.
It took us about 45 minutes to do the trail out-and-back and had an elevation gain of about 300 feet. It's a rocky dirt trail with lots of gorgeous pine trees, fields, wildflowers (if you hike it in July), and a small creek along the trail. Once you get closer to the falls, you'll need to hike down a rock with an attached rope, and walk through the colder water a bit. I'm so glad Daylen and I wore our Chacos, it made it super easy!
Once we got to the falls, we took lots of photos and enjoyed the scenery. You can climb up the falls to see the main waterfall, but it was crowded and slippery that day so we did not. I think the view of the falls is more than enough if you don't want to climb.
We loved Donut Falls! It's a great non-strenuous SLC activity that is great for families, date nights, and quick canyon hikes. After our hike, we ate at the famous Red Iguana in Salt Lake City, which I highly recommend.
